Cloudflare has been recognized as a leader in the “Forrester Wave^TM: DDoS Mitigation Solutions, Q4 2017.”

The DDoS landscape continues to evolve. The increase in sophistication, frequency, and range of targets of DDoS attacks has placed greater demands on DDoS providers, many of which were evaluated in the report.

This year, Cloudflare received the highest scores possible in 15 criteria, including:

We believe that Cloudflare’s position as a leader in the report stems from the following:

• An architecture designed to address high-volume attacks. This post written in October 2016 provides some insight into how Cloudflare’s architecture scales to meet the most advanced DDoS attacks differently than legacy scrubbing centers.

• In September 2017, due to the size and effectiveness of our network, we announced the elimination of “surge pricing” commonly found in other DDoS vendors by offering unmetered mitigation. Regardless of what Cloudflare plan a customer is on—Free, Pro, Business, or Enterprise—we will never terminate a customer or charge more based on the size of an attack.

• Because we protect over 7 million Internet properties, we have a unique view into the types of attacks launched across the Internet, especially harder-to-deflect Layer 7 application attacks. This allows us to reduce the amount of manual intervention and use automated mitigations to more quickly detect and block attacks.

• Our DDoS mitigation solution helps protect customers by integrating with not only a stack of other security features, such as SSL and WAF, but also with a full suite of performance features. With a highly scalable network of over 118 data centers, Cloudflare can both accelerate legitimate traffic and block malicious DDoS traffic.

This combination of scale, ease-of-use through automatic mitigations, and integration with performance solutions, continues to advance our mission to help build a better Internet.

Forrester Research, Inc. has released The Forrester Wave™: DDoS Services Providers, Q3 2015 report which ranks CloudFlare as a leader. How do you get placed “up and to the right”? The leaders in this Wave, including CloudFlare, demonstrated effective portals, good client and revenue growth, and a focus on customer service. They also all have the ability to defend against the largest amplification attacks and the most pernicious application attacks.

Here’s some of the criteria CloudFlare received the highest possible scores for:

• Attack types defended

• Data/scrubbing center geographic presence

• Detection tactics

• SSL traffic inspection

The DDoS Services Providers Wave also notes that CloudFlare boasts fast mitigation times, and that our customers gave us high marks for service delivery. The report cited CloudFlare’s excellent capabilities to deliver hybrid DDoS solutions as well.

So how does the report evaluate vendors? It evaluates vendors based on three major categories, each with specific criteria:

• Current offering:The strength of vendors’ current DDoS product offering is based on evaluation categories including: business description, amplification attack defense, attack types defended, customer portal features, customer references, data/scrubbing center geographic presence, SSL traffic inspection, and standard mitigation times.

• Strategy:Vendors’ position on the horizontal axis of the Wave graphic in the report indicates the strength of their DDoS strategy, specifically as it relates to our customer communication process, hybrid implementation availability, system integration partners, technical development, professional services, and sales staff.

• Market Presence:Vendors’ market presence was measured based on their client base, revenue, revenue growth, and the number of years the company has offered DDoS services. One thing to note here, CloudFlare does not share financial information--this is our policy as a private company. That said, our scores for revenue and revenue growth in the market presence category were determined without sharing this information. Because of our policy, we could only share information about our client base and the number of years we have offered DDoS services.

Forrester evaluated nine participating vendors for this report. Inclusion criteria used for vendor selection for this evaluation were a mix of the breadth of each vendor’s offerings, its global presence, and its market relevance.

During the Up 2011 Cloud Computing Conference in Mountain View, CA, Matthew Prince (CloudFlare CEO) was on hand to give a presentation about CloudFlare and discuss our growth as a nominee for the Fastest Growing Cloud Computing Company award.

There were three finalist companies in the catagory, out of over 1,000 applicants, including Nulogy and Rightscale. After each company gave a 10 minute presentation to the audience and judges, the winners were announced. CloudFlare was awarded the Audience Choice award, presented by Cloudcor and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

We are so excited to add another award to our list!

A few weeks ago the Wall Street Journal named CloudFlare the most innovative Networking & Internet Technology of 2011. We were pretty flattered given that winners from other categories included IBM for Watson (the Jeopardy-playing computer), a company that figured out how to create stem cells from any cell in your body, and another that used algae to produce oil and diesel fuels cheaper than drilling for fossil fuels.

On Tuesday, I traveled down to Redwood City to receive the award at the FASTech conference and pose for this picture which, I'm sure, will cause my mom to write in (probably to customer support) and tell me I need a haircut.

Every day Ian on our team pulls a "stat of the day." He asks the rest of us to guess the answer. Today's was: "How much has CloudFlare grown since January 1, 2011?" It's pretty incredible to realize the answer: our traffic has grown by more than 3,200% since January. And we're not slowing down. In the next few days, we'll cross having saved our users more than 2 petabytes of bandwidth. And, as we just got finished discussing during our Friday all-team B.E.E.R. meeting, if you knew what we had planned in 2012 you'd realize: we're just getting started.

We just got word that the Wall Street Journal named CloudFlare the Most Innovative Network & Internet Technology Company of 2011. The WSJ received more than 600 entries from companies in 31 countries around the world. Here's the blurb about CloudFlare that will appear in tomorrow's edition of the WSJ:

Network and Internet TechnologiesCloudFlare Inc. of San Francisco earned top honors in this category with a service that helps secure and speed up the performance of websites.

CloudFlare sits between a website's hosting service and a visitor's computer, sending traffic through its own network of data centers around the globe. Its security feature automatically detects threats from excessive spam, surveillance from malicious programs known as "bots" and denial-of-service attacks; all sites that use CloudFlare are then protected if the threat reappears.

Threat-detection systems can slow down Internet page loading because they add an extra layer between a website and its visitors. CloudFlare's developers, however, refined the code running its systems so that most pages load as much as 40% faster.

The LulzSec hacker group, which used CloudFlare's service to protect a website where it boasted of its exploits, praised CloudFlare after the service successfully fended off a barrage of attacks designed to bring down the site.

On Thursday, April 29, CloudFlare won the Judge's award at Under The Radar, an event showcasing new technology in the Silicon Valley. CloudFlare's co-founder and CEO, Matthew Prince, shared CloudFlare's story with the audience. Since CloudFlare launched six months ago at TechCrunch Disrupt, we've saved 1000 years of time for web surfers, stopped 750M threats and brought the performance and security tools previously reserved for the Internet Giants to tens of thousands of websites.
